Webmasters Notes: Vernon Doyle Swaim enlisted in the US Navy December 31, 1941 at Birmingham, AL, service #272 81 51. He was received aboard the Destroyer USS Sigsbee DD-502 January 23, 1943 at Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY as S2c. After 3 years, 2 months, 22 days Vernon Doyle Swaim, TM2c, transferred April 13, 1946, to CCG, FFT to USS ? (sorry, unreadable in muster roll). I can still remember Vernon's smiling face at morning Muster and at the Torpedo Shack on the USS Sigsbee. He was a great shipmate and friend in the Ordnance Division.. I note On my web site that Vernon and Louise Swaim attended at least four of the early USS Sigsbee DD-502 Reunions.Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time of grief.
