KEELE, ELDON RAY, April 21, 1927 to Dec. 3, 2008 Eldon was born in Dudley, Texas and moved to Calipatria, California as a small child. His interest in airplanes led him to crop dusting flights as a teenager. He enlisted in the Navy in World War II and served aboard three ships, the USS Sigsbee, the USS Eberle and the USS Parker. After the war he returned home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Cox. They had two children Richard and Debra. He worked 40 years for Safeway including going to Bedford, England in the 1960's to train personnel for a new chain of Safeway stores. Shortly after returning to North County, he retired to an avocado ranch in San Marcos. In 1999, he lost his wife Gerry after 53 years of marriage. In 2003, he married Anne Williams; they traveled to England, Alaska, Holland and Mexico. Eldon was a member of The Palomar A's flying club, The Wingmaster's R/C club, the Over the Hill Fly Boys, The Model 'A' Club of America, and the Safeway Quarter Century retiree's club. Eldon is survived by his wife, Anne; son, Richard Keele; daughter, Debra Olmstead; grandson, Andrew Keele, and brother, Don Keele and his wife Sharon. A Memorial Service will be held December 20th, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in San Marcos.

Webmaster's Notes: Eldon Ray Keele enlisted in the US Navy, February 9, 1945, (probably) at San Diego, CA. Service # 569 94 54. He was received aboard the USS Sigsbee DD-502 as S2c, August 8, 1945 at Pearl Harbor, TH. Eldon Ray Keele, S1c served honorably aboard the USS Sigsbee eight months and six days. April 13, 1946 he was transferred to the USS Eberley DD-430 at Charleston, SC. I never had a chance to meet Eldon because he reported aboard USS Sigsbee three days after my transfer back to the States, August 5, 1945. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
