CLINTON "SONNY" HAY
WOODVILLE - Clinton "Sonny" Hay, age 81 of Woodville, OH passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side. On April 1, 1927 he was born to Noah and Leona (Monnette) Hay in Toledo, OH.
He married Monna Roth on August 14, 1948 in Toledo, OH and she survives. Sonny and Monna celebrated 60 years of marriage on their 2008 anniversary. Sonny was employed as a welder at A.P. Parts Tech Center Toledo, OH for 32 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church Woodville, OH. He enjoyed woodworking, making many beautiful oak and maple furniture pieces for family and friends and built his retirement home in 1992. Sonny was an outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, work in the garden and was a member of Starcraft Camping Club for 20 years.
He was an honorably discharged WWII Navy veteran receiving the Purple Heart during the battle of Okinawa in 1945. Over the past several years he enjoyed reunions in Virginia Beach with his Navy buddies who served with him on the USS Sigsbee DD-502. He was extremely proud when he and his fellow veteran shipmates were invited as the honored guests of the US Navy for the 2002 christening ceremonies in Mississippi and the official commissioning ceremonies in 2004 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for the new guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) named for Rear Adm. Gordon Paie'a Chung-Hoon, who commanded the USS Sigsbee during WWII. Sonny was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving Sonny is his wife, Monna Hay of Woodville, OH; daughter, Deborah (John) Musteric of Perrysburg, OH; son, Robert (Bonnie) Hay Sr. of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Michael (Molly) Musteric of Toluca Woods, CA, Brigette (Sean) Baney of Rossford, OH, Elizabeth Hay of Denver, CO, Robert Hay Jr. of Waco, TX, Ronald (Leigh-Ann) Hay of Mentor, OH; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Francis Hay, Chester Hay and an infant twin brother; and sisters, Ruth Krupinski, Vera Szabo, Pearl Downes, and Edna Infalt.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 20, 2009 from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Marsh Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, OH where there will be additional visitation one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Rev. William Duty and Rev. Karl Ribbeck. There will be a bereavement luncheon held immediately following the funeral services at the church. Internment will be held at 3:00 PM at Toledo Memorial Park Sylvania, OH with military rites to follow.

MILITARY HONORS FOR US NAVY VETERAN CLINTON ROBERT HAY, S1c
Web Master's Notes: Clinton R Hay enlisted in the US Navy, V-6 program April 22, 1944 at Toledo, OH, Service number723 63 68. He reported aboard the USS Sigsbee DD-502 August 8, 1944 at Aniwetok Atoll. Clinton R Hay, S1c served honorably on the USS Sigsbee 1 year 8 months and 4 days. He was transferred April 11, 1946 at Charleston SC for further transfer to the USS Wren DD-558 for temporary duty. Clinton and his family attended several USS Sigsbee reunions including the Commissioning of the USS Chung-Hoon DDG 93 at Pearl Harbor September 2004. Clinton was admired by all who knew him.
