REDDING — Services for Luther Henry Fessler, 85, of Redding will be at 11 a.m. Monday October 20, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Redding.
The Rev. Stace Rollefson of the church will officiate.
Burial will be at Lawncrest Memorial Chapel in Redding.
Mr. Fessler died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his residence.
Born Sept. 28, 1918, in Cressey, he moved to Shasta County in 1987 from Lake County.
He was a line foreman for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., a member of the Upper Lake School Board and of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Redding.
Survivors include sons David of Redding and Rodney of Windsor; daughters Pamela Stein of Redding; sisters Florance Flanigan of Bremerton, Wash., and Edna Wells of Paradise; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Lawncrest Chapel in Redding.
Webmaster's Note: Luther H. Fessler Service #243-80-98, enlisted in the US Navy November 13, 1940 at Philadelphia, PA. He was received aboard the USS Sigsbee DD-502 as FC2c from R. S. NOB Norfolk, VA. July 20, 1943. After 23 months and 13 days service aboard Sigsbee, Luther was transferred as FC1c to the destroyer USS Beener DD-807 at Pearl Harbor, HI. In recent years Luther attended USS Sigsbee reunions at Virginia Beach, VA and Pascagoula, MS. He also attended the West Coast USS Sigsbee DD-502 reunions at Sacramento and Las Vegas. Luther was considered a celebrity at the West Coast Sigsbee reunions in light of his "Luau in Hawiia" full page photo appearance on page 104 of Life Magazine's August 1945 issue. Luther was admired by all who knew him and will be sorley missed by his Sigsbee shipmates and friends.
