Dr. Carl W. Laurent, Jr., age 83 of Crown Point, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Edna of 64 years; three sons: William Wayne (Carlyn) Laurent of Sun City, FL, Robert (Joyce) Laurent of Granger, IN, Michael Roy (Margie) Laurent of Dallas, TX; one daughter Linda (John) Lockhart of Wildamire, CA; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. directly from First Baptist Church, 473 Sibley, Hammond with Dr. Jack Schaap and Dr. Johnny Colsten officiating. Entombment to follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There will be a time of viewing at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Laurent was born and raised in Springfield, IL and was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 30 years. He was a WWII US Navy veteran. After his conversion he graduated from Moody Bible Institute. In 1974 he joined First Baptist Church of Hammond and began teaching Sunday school. In that same year he joined the staff at Hyles-Anderson College where he was Professor of Bible. Dr. Laurent was an avid "soul winner" and led many souls to Christ. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dr. Laurent's memory may be given to the First Baptist Church Buildings Fund. Friends may sign the guest register at .
