Donald N. Austgen, 79, of Florida, formerly of Dyer, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003. He is survived by four children: Donna (Barry) Frisinger of Rochester, IN, Suzie (Jim) Fogarty of Griffith,IN, Debbie Bair of Gary, IN and Don (Glenda) Austgen of Hammond; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Brandy) Staniszeski, Justin and Devin Fogarty, Steve (Dianna) Austgen, Jennifer (Eric) Szczudlak, Brooke Darnell and Melissa (Curt) Herzog; four great- grandchildren, Paige and Haleigh Darnell and Angelica and Stevie Austgen; one brother, Robert (Pearl) Austgen and one sister, Lee, both of Vero Beach, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Pete Austgen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1st, 11:00 a.m. at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 1920 Hart Street, Dyer, IN. At rest, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Austgen was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy of WW II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a life member of the Dyer VFW, retired Dyer Volunteer Fireman. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs. Memorials to a Hospice would be appreciated.
WEBMASTER'S NOTE: Donald Nicholas Austgen, SM2c, SN# 300 93 20, enlisted in the US Navy July 8, 1942 at Chicago, IL. Don reported aboard the USS Sigsbee DD-502, January 23, 1943. After 39 months (+/-) on the DD-502 he was transferred to the USS Jarvis DD-799, April 13, 1946 at Charleston, SC. Don Attended many USS Sigsbee reunions beginning in 1988 at Indianapolis, IN. He will be missed by all of his Sigsbee shipmates and friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Don's family and friends.
