Funeral Services for James Wesley Anderson, 91, of Oroville will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Oroville Funeral Home. James passed away on February 4, 2004 at Oroville Hospital. James was born December 30, 1912 in Cordell, Okla. to Edward and Sallie Anderson. James served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander. While serving in WWII, James was part of a rescue operation for a downed fighter pilot, President George H.W. Bush. James was submarine veteran and had traveled all over the world. He fluently spoke four languages. James was a member of the Lake County Lion's club, the Old Time Fiddlers, and the Down Home Gang. He was also an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife Juanita of Oroville; sons and wives Arthur and Ana Smithson of Sacramento, Larry and Larissa Smithson of Ft. Smith, Ark. and Ed and Diana Anderson of Reseda, Calif.; a daughter Kathy Lucas of Sacramento; brother, Harold Berber of Vancouver, Wash.; niece Janice Erler of Valley Center, Calif.; grandchildren, Andrew, Jim, Amy, Wesley and Annie; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. Burial will be at the Glen Brook Cemetery in Cobb, Calif., following services at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Oroville Funeral Home, 1454 Montgomery Street.
